A total of nine mares received honor winning prize for their offspring at the horse breeding conference “Hrossarækt 2012” last weekend. In Eiðfaxi 7th edition there is detailed discussion about them. The mares have a different background. Some of them received high scores for breeding assessment and others were quite successful in competitions, but in spite of the fact that some of them were not amongst the best, they have proved to be fantastic breeding mares. This is somewhat due to the owners’ choice of good stallions for their mares, resulting in their successful offspring.
Eiðfaxi felt it was right to get in touch with their owners and find out which stallions had been chosen for their mares last spring. This proved quite interesting: None of these nine mares are pregnant by the same stallion.
The Gletta trhopy winner Þoka frá Hólum is pregnant by last year’s star Spuni frá Vesturkoti. Gleði frá Prestsbakka is expecting with this years´ highest assessed
stallion Hrannar frá Flugumýri. Sóldögg frá Hvoli on the other hand is pregnant by another horse from Flugumýri, Seiður frá Flugumýri. It may not come as a surprise to anyone that Siggi Sig brough Pyttla frá Flekkudal to the winner in A-class gæðingar, Fróði frá Staðartungu. Ballerína frá Grafarkoti is on the other hand pregnant by Toppur frá Auðsholtshjáleigu and Ambátt frá Kanastöðum was brought to Kvistur frá Skagaströnd but pregnancy has not been confirmed. Breeder of the year, Bergur Jónsson chose a stallion from his own breeding stock, Álfarinn frá Syðri-Gegnishólum, with the mare Framkvæmd frá Ketilsstöðum. Then, Kvika frá Akranesi was brought to Óskasteinn frá Íbishóli and Storka frá Dalbæ is pregnant by Arion frá Eystra-Fróðholti.
