Mixing together old and new equitation values

A demonstration will be held by Sigurbjörn Bárðarson at the FT birthday jubilee.....

February 19th next at the Víiðidalur riding arena.

Someone whispered to Eiðfaxi that Sigurbjörn was gong to mix together old and new values of equitation in his demonstration, thereby arousing our curiosity and we decided to get further information.

What will you bring forth in your demonstration?
“I will be putting emphasis on the interplay of older Icelandic equitation and that of the new times, connect the classical equine to the Icelandic one. I will put special emphasis on the relation of new approach to the traditional Icelandic equine which we grew up with. I will talk about the use of the rain, seat and the interplay of different exercises in relation to the gaits of the Icelandic horse. Also, I will discuss how to preserve old tradition in the art of riding and how we can modernize it.”

Why is it that a demonstration is a smart way to share knowledge?
“In a demonstration the spectator can see how the instructor goes about what he is explaining. The spectator can then use that method when he is training a horse. I think that the spectator can pick up a lot in a demonstration, something that is quite unfamiliar when he is actually sitting on a horse. The connection will therefore be greater and the understanding of the spectator will be much greater after having watched how the exercises are done” Sigurbjörn says and points to the freestyle of the demonstration form. “Because when the spectator is watching a demonstration he can bring whatever information he chooses home with him. A demonstration does not force a certain methodology towards the spectator. On the contrary the equitation is introduced and then the spectator can choose which features he would like to take home wit him, all depending on what suits best his own equitation.”

At thie time the Association of Trainers is celebrating its 25th year. Exactly what is the importance of the Association for our equitation?
“The Association of Trainers is a professional association which consists of professionals in this industry. The assignment of the association is to embrace equitation and to be in the forefront and introducing novelties. The Association should be a formative power of the Icelandic horse worldwide and be supportive of progress within the sector of equitation.”

At the gæðinga agility competition tonight, Sigurbjörn will bring Jarli frá Miðfossum, and the companions were in second place in this same competition last year. It will be exciting to see how they will be doing tonight.

Eiðfaxi wishes them all the best tonight and thanks them for the conversation.
