Eiðfaxi contacted Víkingur Gunnarsson department head of the horse breeding track in the Hólar University, asking him about the school.....
Everything here is about to start into a full action. The students will be gathering here next week and then the classes will start.
Are there many riding instructors coming in for further education?
This year there will be a total of 14 students in the riding instruction department which is equal to the peak number of students in this department in the past. These students are totally magnificent, amazing kids that have passed tough a preliminary examination.
Generally speaking, do the students bring good horses to ride?
Yes, all our students have good and well trained horses, and indeed they would not be able to pass the preliminary tests without great horses.
What about first year students, will they be concentrating on vocational training?
Yes, we are starting to work on evaluations of the horses which will be used in the vocational training or the young inriding horses, which they will be working on in the vocational training. Also, a couple of our teachers, Þórarinn Eymundsson and Þórir Ísólfsson will visit the vocational farmers and evaluate the young horses.
What is the health condition of the horses in the north?
It is pretty good. I think that we have already passed through the worst of it. A couple of horses here and there show some symptoms, but these are horses which had not been infected before. The disease is a lot milder for horses which are catching the infection for a second time.
Are the people of Skagafjörður contemplating Landsmót?
Yes, no question about that. All horse people should unite and host a grand tournament, concentrating on having it as great as possible.
