Learnig your whole life

The powerful Aðalheiður Auðunsdóttir is a lively horse woman in her sixties.....

Now she is working towards her fourth badge seminar where the instructor is Sigrún Sigurðardóttir at the Gustur horse club in Kópavogur and she takes horse rides every year, and some of them 7-10 days long.

“I saw how much fun people were having on these seminars, and wanted to join. The seminars are well constructed and therefore I have attended them every year for the past four years,” Aðalheiður says.

She also says that she likes the approach which is taught at the riding seminars. “I like how the entire control is built on the horse understanding with a few subtle aids which is what we learn in the seminars. This simply makes horsemanship more enjoyable to be able to approach the horse in this way.” She says.
Aðalheiður is born and raised in Reykjafjörður close to Ísafjörður and says that she was raised up riding horses but then she stopped practicing the sport when she moved to Reykjavík. But when her daughter, Gréta Guðmundsdóttir, fell in love with horses and riding she brought her mother along with her. This winter the mother and daughter keep seven horses in the stable, and therefore Aðalheiður is quite busy.

But it is not enough just to ride horses in the winter. Every summer for the past 20 years, Aðalheiður has taken riding tours for 7-10 days and she has traveled through many parts of the country and she says that she has examined almost all corners of Iceland, except for the East part. Aðalheiður assisted in the making of the home page Icehorse Experience last summer and this summer she naturally aims for enjoyable horse travels.

Eiðfaxi admires Aðalheiður for her power and ambition and wishes her enjoyable horse travels in the coming summer!
