Landsmót: "Lots of promising young horses"

There is lots of action at Auðsholtshjáleiga...

The horse breeding farm Auðsholtshjáleiga in the Ölfus area has been in one of the leading horse farms for many years always bringing a large and handsome group of horses to Landsmót. Landsmot.is was curious to know whether preparations for the next Landsmót had started, and took an interview with Þórdís Erla Gunnarsdóttir riding instructor and horse trainer at the farm.

“The training is proceeding very well and there are lots of fun and promising young horses here. There are four of us who are working at the farm as trainers, and in addition to me there is Bylgja Gauksdóttir, Elsa Mandal and then the horse training intern Aðalheiður Anna Guðjónsdóttir. At this time we have 50 shoed horses here on the farm. Most of our horses are young ones which will be four or five years old this spring.

Þórdís says that it will be exciting to see how the condition the horses are in after this winter. “Of course we aim to take our best horses to Landsmót. The stallion Gígjar frá Auðsholtshjáleigu has already earned some points for 1st prize for his offspring and we aim to bring a group of his offspring to Skagafjörður“. “It would also be fun if Gári managed to get his youngest offspring into Landsmót and perhaps to receive a honor prize for them. We also have three mares from our farm, they are Gígja, Trú and Vordís, who will be possible honor prize winners.“

For the preliminary into the gæðinga competition, Þórdís thinks that Trostan frá Auðsholtshjáleigu, Tíbrá frá Auðsholtshjáleigu and Þöll frá Garðabæ will be there as well as Aspar frá Enni for the tölt competition. Otherwise, Þórdís does not want to comment on which other horses will be brought to Landsmót, other than that there are a few young and promising horses that they will enjoy taking along to the event.

“I have a great feeling for this Landsmót, it will be fun to see new and great horses on the scene and I think that generally speaking, horse people are extremely relieved that this new year is here“ says Þórdís finally and is off to her work, there is lots of action at the farm and Landsmót at Vindheimamelar, in Skagafjörður is approaching fast.
