A day of glory in Víðidalur
The FT festival was held yesterday and the arena was full of anticipative spectators......
About 700 people were gathered the Víðidalur riding arena. The program was ongoing all the time and full of informative matters to heard and seen.
A total of eleven demonstrations were held, where riding instructors and FT training champions explained and demonstrated a few chosen evens to be used for training or in-riding. Ísólfur Líndal Þórisson demonstrated how it is possible to develop organized foot control when working with the horse within his field of understanding. Mette Mannseth presented a fantastic show when she talked about mentality and work on the lunge. Benedikt Líndal presented to us the importance of leading a horse when riding at the first stage of training. Þórarinn Eymundsson pointed out to us a few issues regarding lightness of the rein contact and how the rider can contribute to the correct physical exertion of the horse. Sigurbjörn Bárðarsson demonstrated to us how to help the horse to understand aids at his own premise. Jakob Svavar Sigurðsson talked about both mental and physical equilibrium as he presented Auður frá Lundum II. Þórdís Erla Gunnarsdóttir demonstrated to us how she goes about training young horses increasing their positive outlook and systematic performance.
Next the horse instructors’ track at Hólar was celebrated as it has been in operation for 15 years. Fifteen riding instructors - one for each graduation year – presented a show under the direction of Eyjólfur Ísólfssonas he gave a talk about the history of the horse riding course at the college and the acknowledgement which the subject has received with this sudy course.
Then there was an introduction of the fund called "Hófadynur or Hoofbeat – future knowledge” where the aim is to collect a fund in order to translate foreign textbooks on horse riding into Icelandic. The fund was established by Rúna Einarsdóttir-Zingsheim who, at the same granted the capital contribution into the fund. On this occasion she rode a few rounds with a smile on her face while this deserving project was being introduced.
Eyjólfur Ísólfsson, Benedikt Líndal and Freyja Hilmarsdóttir were decorated with the golden FT symbol for their work and ambition, and all of them have all been valuable for the Icelandic horse riding.
The final part of the day was a competition in the new FT event called "FT Horse Riding”. A total of six horse trainers and riding instructors showed their riding art, where the aim of this competition event is to present interplay between man and horse which is the outstanding project, and where the competitors needed to present quality interaction between man and horse every 8-10 minutes in the free demonstration. This was an enjoyable competition where the competitors had an opportunity to present unconventional practices. For example Þorsteinn Björnsson presented his whole show with only one hand on the rain, and Anton Pálsson crawled under his horse. Mette Mannseth was the winner in this first tournament of "FT Horse riding". She showed her talents where she had two horses where the final step was to have both horses do the Spanish step at the same time!
Although the program was a little lengthy, which caused some spectators to leave one by one towards the end of the day, this FT jubilee was especially entertaining and informative.
Eiðfaxi congratulates FT with this phase.
