ÍM 2010 B finals - tölt
ÍM 2010 B finals - tölt
And this is “only” B finals; a spectator sitting on bench was overheard saying. Here in Hafnarfjörður the sun has started shining again and a fantastic presentation in B finals tölt just came to a conclusion.
This competition is just like finals in a tournament should be. Nobody is safe with anything and the competitors have been taking turns being in the lead after each event. After the slow tölt it was Hulda Gústafsdóttir and Sveigur frá Varmadal who were in the lead but Sara and Díva who came in on the top seat, were in second place.
Hulda was not so successful in the speed transitions and this is where Sara and Díva were very secure and it is rare to see a great style like Díva showed when she lowered her hind quarters and increased her speed. Sigurður Óli Kristinsson and Svali frá Feti who came in through the “back door” into the finals after one competitor withdrew from competition also showed fantastic speed transitions and was right behind Sara and Díva who were in the lead after the speed transitions.
Clearly there was great tension in the air while the scores for speed transactions were revealed and the competitors who were in the mood to continue had to wait for a signal from the announcer before riding another round.
The fast tempo was the deciding factor for the finals. Sigurður and Svali were determined to make a difference and like Sigurður said when he came from the track: “When the announcer said after the fast tempo that I was right behind Sara, I just thought, well my dearest Rauður, now it is everything or nothing“.
And it was everything, because Svali was flying on the track at great speed, strong horse and full of security and radiance. Sara and the young Díva did extremely well and when Sigurður and Svali had passed one competitor after another and came close to Divas hind quarters it was almost like the mare gained extra power because she increased her speed and when the announcer stopped the race, Svali and Siggi had not managed to pass them.
But the finals had been decided, two of the judges gave Sigurður and Svali a score of 9.0 for fast tempo and therefore he was the winner in the B finals with a score of 8.12 after having entered the event with the lowest score. This is the kind of finals where one would have wished to see two winners, because both Sigurður and Sara deserved to be the winners.
